🇯🇵 My 88 Temple Pilgrimage In Japan – 2024

Shikoku Island

The past does not only draw us back to the past. There are certain memories of the past that have strong steel springs and, when we who live in the present touch them, they are suddenly stretched taut and then they propel us into the future.

– Yukio Mishima
(The Temple of the Golden Pavilion)

Kōbō Daishi walked a sacred pilgrimage, wishing for the peace and security of Japan in the middle of a chaotic period full of civil wars and devastating disasters. He sought a final resting spot for these teachings and himself. The place he found was Koyasan on Mt Koya.

This page is a convenient and efficient reference for all of the blog posts related to my pilgrimage during the spring of 2024 on Shikoku island in Japan to trace the steps of Kūkai (Kōbō Daishi).
